Abstract

The psychological characteristics of communication in the professional activity of law enforcement workers are considered. Theoretical aspects of effective communication are analyzed. Great attention is paid to the patrol police training which includes training course of «Effective communication». The basic directions of law enforcement communication and opportunities for its formation are investigated. Emphasis was done to main conditions and factors that should be considered to establish effective communication between law enforcement agencies and citizens.
Professional communication is a part of the professional activity of law enforcement workers irrespective of their specializations. Servicing activity of the workers of bodies of Internal Affairs is based on the communicative relationship. Under the present conditions an urgent demand arises for the development, organization and creating the forms and methods of the psychological training of the police workers for the effective countering offenders, and sound decision about official functions which is possible at the respective communicative competence level, forming the competency to communicate in everyday and extreme situation.
The communicative activity is revealed by some authors as a process of the concrete peculiarities, which to some extent perceive each other, relate to one another, and exchange information. The authors underline the perceptive, informative (or communicative) and interactive substructures in its structure. The peculiarities of the interpersonal cooperation in any community are stipulated to a great extent by the way the members apprehend and understand one another, what emotional response is arisen and what type of behaviour is taken. Prevention of unacceptable situations and overcoming the negative tendencies in the professional communication needs special attention. For instance, special training is very helpful; it prepares law enforcement employees for special professional communication, which makes it easier for them to acquire functional role-play positions in their professional activity.
