Abstract

Abstract. The article analyzes the peculiarities of the development of assertiveness in students of higher education with special educational conditions. An analysis of scientific research on the concept of assertiveness was carried out, and the peculiarities of the development of assertive behaviour in students of higher education with specific learning conditions were empirically investigated. Thus, scientists believe that assertiveness is personal autonomy, independent of external assessments and influences, the ability to independently regulate one’s behaviour and the ability to constructively find a way out of non-standard situations in interpersonal relationships. In view of the results of the theoretical analysis, the authors selected a complex psychodiagnostic toolkit, namely: assertiveness test (V. Caponi, T. Novak), a method of diagnosing dominant strategies of protection in communication (V. Boyko), a method of studying self-attitude (S. Pantileev). The following results were obtained on the basis of the conducted research. The researched students of higher education in the first year of study show more aggressive, emotionally intense behaviour and avoidance behaviour. This may be related to a change in living environment, mastering a new social role of a student of higher education in an institution with specific study conditions. Sophomores, unlike firstyear cadets, showed more emotionally and behaviorally favourable results for mastering assertiveness skills and, according to the methods, they more often use patterns of assertive behaviour. The psychodiagnostic toolkit of our experimental study of psychological characteristics of assertiveness in higher education applicants was selected in accordance with the tasks set. Each of the methods that we used in the empirical part of our article was selected in accordance with the peculiarities of the learning conditions and the criteria of validity and reliability.
