Abstract

Abstract. In the article, the author reveals the essence of activation of personal resources in psychologically difficult life situations through the prism of age crises. The author reveals the meaning of the definition “difficult life situation”, analyzes the peculiarities of the psychological resources of the individual at different age stages, which affect coping and overcoming typical age-related difficulties; considers the possibility of purposeful work of specialists to prevent personality maladaptation in the process of overcoming difficult situations in one’s life. Based on the analysis of scientists’ works, the author concludes that the influence of age on the definition of maturity and personal development is insignificant. It is life experience, emotional and cognitive development that determine the main strategies and tactics of personal behaviour. The author assures that each age period of the personality contains its own resources aimed at overcoming difficult life situations. However, they can be unused if they are not purposefully paid attention to and not developed. The personal resource, for example, of teenagers and children, which helps themselves to cope with life’s difficulties, depends on emotional response, behaviour, flexible thinking. In this way, new standards are learned, new skills are acquired, attention is switched from one situation to another, emotional flexibility and imagination are formed, which performs a protective function. The author also claims that the child’s internal resources are also important, although the importance of external factors in overcoming difficult life situations is much greater than internal ones. At the same time, the emotional and social support of significant people nearby is an important factor at the stage of youth, and decisive – in old age, despite the development of opportunities at that age for wisdom and spiritual and religious experience. In adulthood, an important resource in the formation of coping strategies is the possibility of realizing one’s psychological reality, accepting it, understanding one’s capabilities or limitations in various spheres of life.
