Attributive style is considered as personal variable and assessment, suggesting an explanation of hypothetical situations, each of which is represented by a positive or negative result. Attention is focused on achieving situations and social situations. The causes of each situation are considered within three planes and are called parameters of causal attribution. These are indicators of internal localization, stability and globality – separately for positive and negative results of actions. The article is filed with definitions of pessimistic and optimistic attribution styles (AS). The nature of the relationship between optimistic AS with other personal characteristics of creative personality and with the psychological well-being and success in creative activity is considered.
The author analyzes the sources and the possibility of forming an optimistic AS. In particular he takes into account the impact of parental AS as the model of behavior to follow, as well as feedback that the child receives as an example of explanation for his success and failure.
Negative role of pessimistic attributive style in critical life situations is determined, which is the predicate of life and creative crises. Specifically the author describes such experiences and feelings as – helplessness, hopelessness and depression.
Regarding helplessness, it is characterized by three symptoms – braking attempts for active intervention into the situation (motivational deficit); learning difficulties (cognitive deficits) and a sense of sadness, depression (emotional deficit).
The article also presents the author’s vision of motivational traits of personality and its formation under the influence of optimistic and pessimistic attribution styles.
