An empirical study was conducted covering a representative sample of cadets of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, which is based on a theoretical concept based on the principles of systematicity, optimization, the theory of integral individuality and orthogonal personality models. On this basis, an original psychodiagnostic complex of methods for rapid systematic psychodiagnostic research of personality has been developed, which includes adapted tests of general abilities, individual-personal properties and orientation. This complex allows a psychologist to compare, refine and supplement the results obtained during testing and formulate a reliable psychodiagnostic conclusion without significant time expenditure. Comparison of groups of successful and unsuccessful servicemen allowed us to establish that statistically significant differences were recorded between groups of successful and unsuccessful individuals according to many criteria and indicators of psychological suitability for service. This applies to general abilities, successful servicemen are more intellectually developed and creative. Regarding the criterion of individual and personal qualities, the successful ones turned out to be more active and courageous, responsible, less prone to depression. Evidence was obtained of less aggressiveness, intransigence and dominance of the representatives of the group of successful ones, a greater tendency to dialogue and compromise. The successful ones are more responsible in the performance of their duties, they show a desire to master new knowledge and skills. High indices on the compliance scale indicate a tendency to compromise in the process of dialogue, the ability to resolve conflicts. Higher indicators of professional resilience of successful people mean a higher level of their involvement in professional activities, better control over them and more effective acceptance of professional risks, the ability to withstand adverse circumstances. The criterion of orientation also revealed the advantage of successful military personnel. According to many indicators of psychological suitability for activity, no significant differences were recorded between the surveyed groups of successful and unsuccessful employees. This applies to the indicators of extraversion and introversion, as well as the indicators of sensitivity, emotionality and neuroticism.
Vadym V. Barko, Vadym Iv. Barko, A. The relevance of the study stems from the fact that in today’s world, there is a growing number of situations in which significant segments of the population are forced to function for extended periods under conditions of chronic danger. Under such conditions, the threat ceases to be a single crisis event and gradually transforms into a persistent element of the living environment, affecting the cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social aspects of an individual’s functioning. This problem takes on particular significance in the context of the war in Ukraine, where the population has long been subjected to constant rocket attacks, air raid alerts, information overload, and general uncertainty. Similar processes are also characteristic of other regions of the world experiencing prolonged conflicts, which attests to the universality of the problem of living under constant threat. Based on an analysis of contemporary foreign and Ukrainian studies, particularly concepts of prolonged traumatic stress, daily war stressors, psychological resilience, and coping strategies, it is argued that existing approaches do not sufficiently explain the mechanism of integrating danger into the structure of everyday life. In this regard, the authors propose a definition of the normalization of danger as a process of transforming the perception of threat, within which it gradually loses its status as an exceptional event and takes on the characteristics of a familiar backdrop to existence. The article examines the structure of the normalization of danger, which includes cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social levels of manifestation. Possible scenarios for the development of this process are described-adaptive, exhausting, and transformational-which reflect different variants of psychological functioning of the individual under conditions of chronic danger. It is emphasized that the normalization of danger can act both as a resource for sustaining life and as a factor in the accumulation of latent psychological tension. It is concluded that the study of the phenomenon of the normalization of danger expands theoretical understanding of the psychological mechanisms of human functioning in extreme conditions and opens up prospects for further scientific research in the field of the psychology of war and crisis situations.
Olena Vavryniv Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1075 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 PSYCHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE PROFESSIONAL FUNCTIONING OF THE NATIONAL POLICE OF UKRAINE PERSONNEL IN CONDITIONS OF MARTIAL STATE https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1076
The article provides a theoretical and analytical review of the organizational and psychological aspects of the activities of the National Police of Ukraine under the conditions of the full-scale armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine. It is shown that martial law has significantly transformed the content and structure of police service: traditional law enforcement functions have been supplemented by tasks typical of defense and civil protection forces, including participation in stabilization measures in de-occupied territories, evacuation operations, documentation of war crimes, humanitarian assistance to the population, and interaction with military units. It is substantiated that organizational transformations (increased workload, intensification of activities, creation of specialized units, and the introduction of an enhanced service regime) are accompanied by the complication of the psychological conditions of professional functioning of personnel. These changes are manifested in increased psycho-emotional tension, risks of professional exhaustion, emotional burnout, and the development of stressrelated disorders. The methodological basis of the study is an interdisciplinary approach that combines legal psychology, organizational psychology, and the theory of management of law enforcement activities, using methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematization, and comparative analysis. As a result, key determinants of the effectiveness of service activities in extreme conditions are identified, and the necessity of developing a system of organizational support and psychological assistance for police officers aimed at preserving psychological health, increasing stress resistance, self-regulation, and professional resilience is emphasized.
Volodymyr Voloshyn Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1076 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 EMPIRICAL STUDY OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF MILITARY SERVICEMEN’S STAY IN CONDITIONS OF FORCED ISOLATION (CAPTION) https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1077
The article is devoted to the study of psychological transformations, post-traumatic reactions and personal destruction in military personnel caused by captivity or forced isolation in combat conditions, as well as the identification of social and organizational factors that affect the effectiveness of reintegration and psychological adaptation after release. The empirical study involved military personnel who had experienced captivity or prolonged isolation. To assess their psycho-emotional state and manifestations of post-traumatic stress disorder, a set of psychological techniques was used, which allowed to identify the level of re-experiencing trauma, avoidance, hyperactivation and distress, as well as to assess stress resistance and the ability to social adaptation. In addition, social and organizational support factors were analyzed, including family environment, interaction with fellow soldiers and the level of acceptance by the community, as well as the effectiveness of psychological assistance. Correlation and regression analysis methods were used to process the data obtained, which allowed us to determine the relationships between social support, psychological state and the success of reintegration. It has been empirically confirmed that social support and subjective assessment of the effectiveness of the assistance provided are critical factors in reducing the manifestations of PTSD. The differential impact of different sources of support has been established: family support correlates with a decrease in general distress; interaction with peers contributes to a decrease in hyperactivation; acceptance by the community facilitates overcoming avoidance strategies. It has been found that high trust in professional psychological assistance is the most powerful predictor of a decrease in the intensity of flashbacks and the overall level of traumatization. Psychological rehabilitation and systemic social support are identified as key determinants of the restoration of psycho-emotional stability. The results of the study substantiate the need to implement a multimodal approach to the reintegration of veterans, combining individual therapy, the development of adaptive coping strategies and the formation of a favorable social environment to prevent the chronicity of post-traumatic states.
Andrii Kyrychenko, Roman Nikolenko Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1077 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 THE ROLE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS OF THE STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE OF UKRAINE https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1078
The article examines the role of psychological support in higher education institutions of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine as an important component of professional training for future civil protection specialists. The relevance of the study is обусловлена increasing demands for individuals’ psychological readiness to perform in conditions of heightened risk, uncertainty, and psycho-emotional stress, especially under martial law and frequent emergency situations. The essence of the concept of “psychological support” is analyzed within the context of the educational environment and professional training in higher education institutions of the SES of Ukraine. Its main functions are identified, including diagnostic, preventive, corrective-developmental, consultative, and educational. It is substantiated that psychological support acts as a systemic process aimed at developing psychological resilience, emotional self-regulation, communicative competence, and the ability to make effective decisions under stress. Special attention is paid to the specifics of organizing psychological support in higher education institutions of the SES, which are обусловлені the professional orientation of training, the need to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills in extreme conditions, and the integration of psychological and pedagogical technologies into the educational process. The importance of psychological support at all stages of training is emphasized–from adaptation to the learning environment to the formation of readiness for professional activity. It is concluded that an effective system of psychological support in higher education institutions of the SES is a necessary condition for the development of a professionally competent, psychologically resilient, and wellprepared civil protection specialist capable of operating in special conditions. Prospects for further research are associated with the development of innovative psychological support programs and the implementation of modern technologies, in particular VR training, in the process of professional education.
Yaremko Roman, Ihor Koval, Karina Dyda Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1078 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 EFFECTIVENESS OF THE APPLICATION OF THE “GREEN ROOM” METHODOLOGY BY PSYCHOLOGISTS DURING THE INTERVIEWING OF CHILDREN IN CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1079
The article examines the effectiveness of the “Green Room” methodology applied by psychologists during the interviewing of children within criminal proceedings. The relevance of the study is обусловлена the need to provide evidence-based justification for the effectiveness of this methodology, which ensures the best interests of the child, minimizes the risk of secondary victimization, and enhances the evidentiary value of obtained testimonies. The paper analyzes the most widely used child interviewing protocols in order to identify their common and distinctive features. In addition, existing approaches to obtaining information from children in criminal proceedings are reviewed, allowing for the identification of the advantages of the “Green Room” methodology. Based on the key components of the methodology, including the formula of safe interaction with the child and the structured phases of interviewing, a qualitative and quantitative assessment questionnaire was developed. This tool enabled an evaluation among practicing psychologists and facilitated the determination of the level of practical implementation of the methodology. The article outlines factors influencing the effectiveness of interviewing, including the professional training of specialists, adherence to non-directive communication principles, and the quality of interagency cooperation. The analysis of practical experience and the generalization of expert opinions indicate that the application of the “Green Room” methodology contributes to obtaining more complete, structured, and authentic information, reduces the likelihood of suggestive influence and repeated questioning, promotes the child’s sense of psychological safety, and increases the professional confidence of the specialist. At the same time, the necessity of proper professional training, strict adherence to interviewing protocols, and coordinated cooperation with investigative authorities is emphasized. The findings support the further development, standardization, and scientific validation of the “Green Room” methodology in child-related criminal proceedings.
Anna Kozlova, Rymma Yurchenko Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1079 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 PSYCHOLOGICAL MECHANISMS OF LEADERSHIP AND PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT UNDER CRISIS CONDITIONS https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1080
The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the psychological mechanisms of leadership and personnel management in the crisis socio-economic conditions caused by military events and prolonged instability in Ukraine. The focus of the study is the role of emotional intelligence of managers, transformational and servant leadership in the formation of psychological safety of personnel as a key factor of organizational stability. The theoretical basis of the work is the concepts of emotional intelligence, psychological safety, resource theory of stress and modern approaches to humanistic models of leadership. The empirical study was conducted on a sample of 412 employees representing 127 organizations of the public, private and educational sectors of Ukraine. Standardized psychodiagnostic methods were used to collect data, which allowed assessing the level of emotional intelligence of managers, manifestations of transformational and servant leadership, psychological safety and organizational stability of personnel. Statistical analysis included correlation, regression, mediation and moderation procedures. The results obtained showed the presence of significant positive relationships between emotional intelligence, humanistic leadership styles and the level of psychological safety in teams. It was established that psychological safety performs a mediating function in the relationship between the emotional intelligence of managers and organizational resilience, ensuring the adaptability of personnel to crisis influences. The moderating effect of the military context, which weakens the direct influence of leadership strategies, and the buffer role of HRpractices of personnel support, which contribute to reducing the level of stress and increasing the sense of security, were also revealed. It was concluded that effective personnel management in crisis conditions is based on the development of emotional intelligence of managers, the implementation of servant and transformational leadership and systemic support of psychological safety. The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of their use for the development of psychological support programs, HR strategies and training of managerial personnel in military and post-war realities.
Natalya Makarchuk, Serhii Vyshnichenko Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1080 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 EMPIRICAL STUDY OF THE IMPACT OF RESILIENCE ON STUDENTS’ PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING IN WARTIME https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1081
The article is devoted to the study of the impact of resilience on students’ psychological wellbeing under wartime conditions. The study was conducted on a sample of 32 students of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University using the following instruments: the Mental Health Continuum – Short Form (MHC-SF-UA), the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), the Questionnaire on Positive and Negative Affects (OPANA), and the Modified BBC Subjective Well-being Scale (BBC-SWB).The results indicated that the majority of students demonstrated a satisfactory level of mental health, while one third of the respondents showed a low level of subjective well-being. Correlation analysis revealed significant relationships between mental health stability and resilience (CD-RISC-10), indicating students’ ability to adapt to difficult life circumstances and maintain internal balance under stress. A positive association was also found between mental health stability and subjective well-being (BBC-SWB), suggesting an interrelation between life satisfaction and emotional balance. Furthermore, a significant relationship was identified between resilience and psychological well-being: the higher the level of subjective well-being, the higher the level of resilience. Positive correlations between positive affect (OPANA) and subjective well-being (BBC-SWB) indicate that an increase in positive emotions is associated with higher self-assessed psychological well-being. Overall, the BBC-SWB demonstrated significant positive correlations with both mental health stability and resilience, confirming the close relationship between subjective well-being and personal resources for coping with stress and maintaining mental health. The generalization of the findings suggests that students with higher levels of resilience demonstrate higher psychological well-being. Thus, resilience appears not only as a mechanism for coping with stress and the traumatic impact of war, but also as an important condition for maintaining mental health and fostering personal development.
Larysa Mishchykha, Oleksandra Savenko-Kobylkina Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1081 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300 STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PERSONAL-PROFESSIONAL FULFILLMENT IN MILITARY PERSONNEL AS A FUNCTION OF LENGTH OF SERVICE https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1082
The article presents the results of an empirical study of personal-professional fulfillment (PPF) of military personnel under martial law conditions. The study is grounded in a resource-regulatory paradigm integrating resilience, moral-value determinants of professional behavior, and mechanisms of combat experience integration. Personal-professional fulfillment is conceptualized as an integral indicator of the structural coherence of meaning-related, value-based, and regulatory components of the professional self, ensuring stability of functioning under chronic stress conditions. The sample consisted of 92 military personnel with different lengths of service whose professional activity has taken place within the context of ongoing military events in Ukraine since 2014. Participants were divided into two groups: those with up to 5 years of service and those with more than 10 years of service. The “Diagnosis of Personal-Professional Fulfillment” methodology was used for assessment. Statistical analysis included nonparametric group comparison tests and correlation analysis. The findings indicate that length of military service is associated with a tendency toward higher integration of professional values, greater readiness to overcome professional difficulties, and a higher overall level of personal-professional fulfillment. At the same time, core personality characteristics demonstrate relative stability regardless of service length. The results suggest that under wartime conditions, professional experience primarily contributes to the strengthening of the regulatoryvalue contour of psychological functioning, whereas transformations of deeper personality structures appear less pronounced. It is concluded that personal-professional fulfillment may serve as an integrative indicator of psychological maturity among military personnel during martial law and as a theoretical foundation for developing psychological support programs aimed at sustaining meaning coherence, professional identity, adaptive self-regulation, and stress resistance.
Yana Ponomarenko Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journals.lvduvs.lviv.ua/index.php/psychology/article/view/1082 Sun, 31 May 2026 00:00:00 +0300
